Toronto Skyline

When thinking about divorce, separation, or child access, the most searched question in Toronto is “How Much Will A Family Lawyer Cost Me?”

Unfortunately, there is no one price that fits in this category.

A family lawyer will charge based on their time; in most cases, this will be an hourly rate. The more experienced the lawyer, the more they will charge per hour as they have been through this process many times; therefore, their experience with family law will work in your favor.

Legal fees are unplanned in one’s life, and we at Korhani Family Law Firm understand that. You will find our entire team of lawyers compassionate about your situation and not just out for a quick cash grab. Our goal is the best outcome for you. It is best first to call us and book a consultation with one of our family lawyers in Toronto or Barrie, where we will listen to your side of the story. We will then give you a clear understanding of all fees associated with your case and a plan we could put forward for you with the courts to see you obtain the best outcome.

Flat Fees vs. Hourly Fees

Some Family Law Firms may work with you to make it as easy as possible to help you pay any fees, including a flat fee agreement, monthly payments, or hourly rates. It is always best to speak to a Toronto Family Law Firm during your initial consultation and have them clarify their rates and final project cost for your case. This way, you know from day one if the law firm you are speaking to will fit your budget.

A divorce case can cost anywhere from 5000 – 20,000 plus. The cost will be determined not only by how experienced the lawyer is but also by how complex the case itself is.

When both parties agree to all terms, it becomes easier for the lawyers to draft up agreements and submit them to the courts. But in many cases, the divorcing parties will not agree to things such as spousal support, child access, or property division; therefore, a legal battle may have to play out in court in front of a judge, and this will result in a higher legal bill.

Every family case is unique, and this is why searching for the cost of a lawyer will, in most cases, only give you broad and vague answers. Give us a call at Korhani Family Law Firm located in Toronto, Ontario, and let us schedule you in for a consultation with one of our experienced family lawyers. During your consultation, we will make everything very transparent regarding fees and how we can help you obtain the best outcome.

Our Fees

At Korhani law our hourly rate starts at $250 per hour and up. We ask for a retainer of a minimum of $5,000 which will be placed in our trust fund and as we invoice you, we transfer funds from trust to general account. From time to time, we ask you to replenish your trust funds. The retainer will depend on many things, whether your matter is in court, when the next court hearing is, or if your matter will be settled by way of a separation agreement.

Our consultations fee is $200 for one hour with one of your family lawyers. This amount includes HST. During the hour we will review your case and give you advice on your next steps.

For uncontested simple divorces, we charge a flat fee of $2,000 plus HST.

If you have any questions or concerns about the above, please give us a call and we will try and work with you.
